Description
The Ginkgo Chair brings the studio’s botanical language into a grounded dining chair form, combining a carved leaf-like backrest with a hand-shaped seat and visible timber structure.
Hand-shaped from solid Australian hardwood using axe, adze, spokeshave, rasps, scrapers, chisels, and hand planes, the chair develops through gradual refinement rather than industrial repetition. The backrest is shaped as a broad organic plane, softened at the edges and held within the frame with a quiet sense of lift.
The seat is carved by hand with subtle hollows and softened transitions, allowing comfort to emerge through shape rather than upholstery. Tapered legs, rungs, and visible joinery provide strength and rhythm while keeping the structure open and materially honest.
The Ginkgo Chair is designed to remain compact in footprint while offering generous support. It is suited to dining settings, residential interiors, hospitality spaces, and architectural projects requiring a functional piece with a calm sculptural presence.
