Post & Rung Chair
Post & Rung Chair
The Post & Rung Chair is a low, grounded dining chair built in solid Australian hardwood. The frame is assembled using long-standing chair-making logic: posts and rungs joined mechanically, locked to take daily load.
The seat and backrest are carved as solid forms, then brushed, burnished and sealed by hand to a quiet satin sheen. The finish is designed to hold the subtle shaping and tool marks of the carving process.
Each chair is built start-to-finish in the studio. The posts, rungs and stretchers are sheoak, a dense Australian hardwood chosen for strength and durability. The carved seat and backrest are worked from solid timber and finished by hand.
This is intended for daily residential use — not just display. The proportions are compact and comfortable, and the undercarriage is braced to feel solid under the body.
Finish options:
– Bone (pale off-white, burnished satin)
– Warm Taupe (soft neutral tone)
– Charcoal (deep near-black)
Frame in natural sheoak.
Made to order. Typical lead time 4–6 weeks.
Hand-built in small numbers in New South Wales, Australia.
Care: Wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners. Minor checking or movement in the hardwood over time is normal and is considered part of the character of the piece.

The seat and upper form are hand-painted and burnished to a quiet satin sheen, then sealed and waxed by hand. This finish is chosen to hold subtle tool marks and retain depth in the carved surface.
Sheoak legs and stretchers are left in a natural finish to show the grain and colour of the timber.
Custom colours are available on request within the studio palette.
